Jumper breaks legs in Table Mountain stunt jump (AP)

JOHANNESBURG ? Police say an American who has claimed successful parachute jumps off the Eiffel Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge broke his legs in a failed attempt off Cape Town's Table Mountain.

Police spokesman Ezra October said Tuesday the jumper was 35-year-old Jeb Corliss.

Table Mountain National Park spokeswoman Merle Collins told the Cape Times newspaper that Corliss didn't have permission for Monday's attempt and could face charges.

Corliss was host of Discovery Channel's "Stunt Junkies" when he tried to jump from the Empire State Building in 2006. Security guards stopped him, and he was convicted of reckless endangerment.

Corliss is a BASE jumper. The acronym stands for the points from which jumps can be made: buildings, spans such as bridges, antennae, and earth formations such as mountains.
